FOOD: Leong's Kitchenette @ USJ 21, Subang Jaya

Recently, I got the opportunity to taste this tasty, simple and affordable home-cooked Chinese restaurant - Leong's Kitchenette @ USJ 21, Subang Jaya. I have heard many good and positive comments regarding this place. Therefore, I am very curious prior to taste the yummy-licious dishes they serve here!

It has a typical Chinese restaurant set-up to it located just around the corner of "AMPM Cafe" serving their specialty - Fried Porridge. I am already curious and tempted to try out this fried porridge just by hearing it!

Simple & Spacious looking of the interior with antique decorations around

A family business consist of the husband ( Leong), who prepares tasty dishes for you while the wife ( Joeslin), who keeps the restaurant running. Here at Leong's kitchen, they boast on serving food with Low MSG, salt and oil

Ice Lime Jelly

Great combination of sour & sweet to this drink. A refreshing drink that quenches your thirst away. With such hot and hazy weather recently, a drink like that would always be great to keep out body hydrated!

Let me start off this blog with their specialty ( in other words, MUST TRY!!!!

Specialty!!!

 Fried porridge with Mackerel
RM10.50

A comforting bowl of porridge that just satisfy your cravings for home-cooked food. Freshness of the Mackerel would be vital as it will be the key to this dish! A dish that will definitely be loved by old and young! Garnished with some spring onion, chopped ginger and sesame oil that enhances the taste of this dish! A dish that I'll definitely be back for!

 Fried porridge with Abalone slices
RM12

Another great bowl of congee! Similar to that of the Mackerel (previous dish) but replace it with abalone slices. Some chewy texture to your bowl of porridge for a change.

Fried Porridge with Salted egg & Century Egg
RM 8

 Fried Porridge with minced pork
RM6.50

Here at Leong's Kitchenette, they are also known for their big mud crab which has so much meat in them!

 Salt Baked Crabs

Honestly, this is one of the best salted baked crabs i've ever tasted! Marinated and baked to perfection up to the extend that the saltiness of the marination can be tasted in the flesh of the crab! One of the dishes I would definitely be back again for!

 Milky Spicy Crab
RM65/KG

Totally loving this soft "Mantaos". Deep fried till golden brown that goes well with the spicy butter sauce! I assure you'd definitely ask for more after your first bite!

Spicy Butter sauce

Main Dishes

 Asam Squid
RM22

A savoury dish with the squids cooked to tender-fection. Not only that, the accompanied sauce was just so appetizing! I could even eat 2 bowls of rice with just this 1 dish. The sauce wasn't too spicy nor too sour, it was just perfect that compliments well with the squids.

 Salted egg stir-fried french beans
RM10 - Small
RM14 - Large

 Pumpkin Homemade Tau foo
RM22

I have always love Claypot tau foo and this dish has some similarity to it with the pumpkin gravy making the base. Topped with some seafoods and straw mushrooms which give it a little extra bites to it!

Hong Kong Style Chicken Wings
RM22

Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside yet flavourful fried chicken wings! Best eaten just like that without any sauces with it.

 Curry Fish Head
RM22 - Small
RM32 - Large

Fish head curry at a very affordable price! Served in a claypot with variety of vegetables, and not forgetting the Fish head! The taste was good with a great combination and balance of spices of curry.

A great place for family and group gatherings/meal. Serve great food with affordable pricing. Do check out this place if you're around that area!

Till next time, See you!

FOOD: Ramen Kanbe @ Empire Damansara

From the "Land Of The Rising Sun", Ramen Kanbe has expanded their business to Malaysia at Empire Damansara!

They originate from the city known as 'Kobe'. I'm pretty sure this will remind you of the famous Kobe Beef. With it's first outlet in Malaysia, they boast about their authentic distinctive flavour mainly due to the special soy sauce ( or more commonly known as 'shoyu' in Japanese) that they use in making the perfect bowl of ramen just for you!

Modern and spacious looking setting of the place

To those who aren't familiar of this place (someone like me!) this might help you locate the place easier as I got lost the very first time I was there ( HAHA! SILLY ME!). Lookout for this banner which directs you into the small tunnel there ( in the picture) to get yourself to Ramen Kanbe.

You might be already curious with what do they serve there. Read on to check out what they have!

Charsiu Ramen (RM 21) (MUST TRY!!!)

(Japanese Barbecue pork Ramen)

Being Kanbe Ramen's signature dish, this bowl of goodness is served with slices Japanese barbecue pork, chopped scallions, bean sprout and a generous amount of black fungus for the extra bites! Not forgetting the noodles here are made fresh daily too!

To those wanting to try some authentic and original Ramen, this might just be the bowl for you!

Why?

The broth is made from boiling chickens, garlic, onions, spring onions, and carrot for hours. These ingredients sweetness or 'umami' can definitely be tasted! Besides the Ramen itself being the key ingredient, up next would be the flavor of the broth would be equally as important for a good bowl of Ramen.

 Reimen (RM21)

(Cold Ramen)

Served with a little wasabi for some extra kick!

For those looking for some twist to your bowl of ramen, this might just be it! Reimen is served cold which i think it's pretty interesting and unique. I personally find it slightly light compared to the "conventional" ramen which is served hot.

 Spicy Ramen (RM21)

Topped with a generous amount of minced pork, some chopped garlic and chives. This may look spicy however as a Malaysian, I pretty sure you can handle it. To be honest, it does not taste as spicy as it seems to be :)

 Torisoboro Rice ( RM10)

A simple Japanese steamed rice topped with spicy mixed minced chicken and pork meat. However, I personally feels that it's slightly dry. It might be better if there was a tad bit more gravy to it.

                               Fried Rice (RM12) (MUST TRY!!!)

Well, this fried rice is definitely one of the MUST TRY dishes at Ramen Kanbe

A very flavourful with sufficient 'wok hei' plate of goodness! Here, the Japanese rice is imported from Vietnam which has a better quality almost similar to the 'sushi rice'. It comes in 2 different portion size! ( Refer to picture below)

 Mini Fried Rice (RM9)

 Karaage (RM10)

De-boned chicken marinated overnight in their very own special sauce which makes it so flavourful and tasty up till the last bite! This version of Karaage may look slightly darker than others simply because Ramen Kanbe's special shoyu is added in during the marinating process.

Otsumami Charsiu (RM10)

The perfect snack that compliments your bottle of beer!

Gyoza (RM10)
